How Dare You?!
Is our opponent serious or just taking a position to try to get around us?
And how do we protect the relationship while we find out?
Easy, as a matter of fact: repeat the last three words your opponent just said. Phrasing it as a question means your voice needs to inflect up at the end. Prove you’re genuinely curious. How they respond to this, will tell us how solid their position is or whether they are simply bluffing. In the process, you will find out additional information. When repeating the last three words as a question. You are giving green light for your opponent to go on.
You’ll be able to tell whether your counterpart is bluffing by the way they reword what they’ve said and how they deliver their response.
When they are just bluffing, they will soften their voice when they reword their statements. When they are telling the truth, you’ll be able to figure that out as well, because they’ll say the same thing all over again.
